Hi. New to the board and I could use some help already. I'm test fitting the grill on my 70 that I'm restoring. Before I bought It It was in wreck and the guy installed 72-74 fenders. I've cut in for the side markers but the rest of it has me stumped. They pieced togather some sort of headlight buckets with rivets and some wierd mounts to make it all work . To top it off the grill was bent up pretty good. Anyone have a diagram from the factory or maybe some pics of the front grill. I think i'm missing some brackets that hold the grill in place along with whatever holds the headlight buckets Thanks.

The 70 and 71 headlight buckets were part of the front fender assembly. Welded in place.

I don't have a photo of the front fenders handy at the moment but will get one later.

Meanwhile a quick search using the board search engine brought up this old thread with diagrams of the actual grilles.

Thanks. I guess I'm in trouble. Like I said I have 72-74 Fenders. Going to have to get creative. I wonder if I can make the mount and weld it on the fender? The car will be nice but a driver....

I'm currently welding some pieces together to do exactly what you are doing. In the meantime, I have fiberglass fenders on my car which I just glassed in 70 buckets, much simpler than metal.

I got some headlight buckets (just the metal dishes the headlights sit in) out of a 70's Dodge sedan with 4 headlights and am welding them to plates, and then to the inside of my fenders.

Its fairly straightforwards, but a LOT of measuring and checking.

If the idea of doing all the welding doesnt sound appealing, you could buy the fiberglass buckets and try to glass/mount them in your steel fenders. Any way you do it though, its a lot of time.

I tried to take some photos but my fenders are standing on end in a tight corner so it was tricky.

I tried to get a shot from the front and one from behind. You can see there is more to it than just a couple of buckets.

ya know there is some one woh did what you are trying to do put a 70 grill in a 73, and they had to get some 70 fenders and cut out the housing from the 70 and put them in the 73 fenders, yes alot of work but it has been done and can be done ,i also saw a real crazy mod where a guy did a chalcuda, yes he did dome serious mods to the door which is where he did the blend of the two cars , all im saying is if its a driver why not , hey its only time and another set of fenders maybe someone has some really rusted fenders or something, dont give up it can be done!if someone made a chal cuda why not make a 70,73 chally , i have a 70 gran coupe and someone put a 71 front end on it and i intend on keeping it that way i like it!

I'm leaning toward the fiberglas buckets at this point. I agree. No real rules if it's a driver.

Haha it was tempting to do a chalcuda for me. My glass cuda fenders were sitting right next to the car the whole time! Actually mocked up the fenders and cuda hood once to see how it would look.

It'd be cool to see how Drewcrane's pics show the bodylines if he still has them. I didnt see how theyd mesh well at all.

thry too the body line , and in the middle they kinda morphed it , in a way that the chally line kinda melded into the flat side of the cuda , now im going to have to look for the pic , im telling ya it was a cool job and it lookes real cool , i will look but im buried in yard work for now! dingo!dingo is his nameo!
