That makes it even more impressive! I couldnt take my wife, too damned chunky, it would bog the entire length of the track,(the car not me), I would need a diesel pusher ect..I heard the tires screaming for bite! It had to be your vehicle cause the mini van wouldnt spin a tire on ice!drewcrane wrote:thanks ed, just a little info , i had my wife in the car and the car weighed in at 3850 lbs,im running 92 octane pump gas, this track is @5800 ft above sea level, also it has a new all concrete surface (only 2 in the country),and is water cooled the first 100 ft(only one in the country),does anybody know of a track at a higher altitude?oh yea street tires no slicks on this car!
out of view they set up the next run ,yes my tyres were spinning, but what you are hearing is the next car in line attempting a burnout!airfuelEddie wrote:That makes it even more impressive! oh man did i spin, yea its not a drag car thats for sure but i reached my goal of driving a car to the track ,and turn a 13 sec. run , not break and drive it home , ready for the next road course, thanks for the horsepower estimate its probably pretty close, thanks dave!dave-r wrote:You lost about 40hp from the wheelspin.
You are making about 350hp at the rear wheels. About 420hp at the crank. Hard to tell without exact weights.
a question since you know more than i do here, i have tride to get this car in the 13,s for along time, this winter i did so many things , like the fuel return line, a new mopar windage tray ,(it had a milodon, and replaced it with a mother mopar tray).,i put an electric fan,as well as fine tuned the alignment, and minor frame alignment, my question is i ran a 14 flat last year and with all i did i dropped alot of time, the car weighed 3850 lbs on that run13.7@103.5mph and the car was 3675 lbs when i ran a 14@100mph,its kinda a stupid question but what did i do to gain that much time, yes i know tire spin is important, but did the extra weight give me more traction netting in a faster 60 ft time (2.0) secs, just courious?dave-r wrote:You would have run 13.3 without the wheelspin. Just so you know.
ahh haa, yes shift points, and yes that is actual weight after the run , i got on the scale, 1/4 tank of gas,so some tire spin (I realize i left alot on the ground,40 horses is alot),i might purchase some slicks if i plan on doing this more , but those shift points , now i know why people have shift lights, good info dave thanks!dave-r wrote:Were those car weights including driver, passenger and fuel load?
On the slower run you made less power for some reason. Wheelspin was not the factor. You ran 3mph slower.
Shift points?
WOW i knew i asked the right guy, yes the car weighed 3850 and change, but that close to 12 sec.s is kinda coolmy buddie in an amx ran right next to me he ran a 13 .5,but if the track were longer i would have cought him , oh by the way i dont have enough practice at the lights and i was snoozing and my r/t was .610,and i tried to follow with a .486, .469 was the best i could do with out practice, i need practicedave-r wrote:OK.
If your car was actually 3850lbs i can make a more accurate calculation.
You made 333hp at the rear wheels but lost 37hp to lack of traction.
If you had applied 100% of the rear wheel horsepower to the track surface (and assuming no other losses) you would have run a 13.17 ET.
Damn close to the 12s there Drew.
This works out as just over 400hp at the crank.
my amx buddie cuts some incredible lites,he cut a .140 against me , and your right it doesnt effect et but i lost cause of that , i lost by 2 tenths of a second, he saye he just counts 1,2,3,and on 3 he nails it!drag is alot harder than it looks, my ignorant brother says its like" getting on the hiway only you dont get out of it",hes only run 2 time down the track ,it very hard and the engine and car are only one component,by what your are saying is all to correct its mostly me , the driver, i love it when people spout off 13 sec. time here and i ask them where , and who was driving cause i talk to some drag racing buddies and gettin a 13 sec. up here is sooooo hard ita taken me 15 years to build a can and learn to drive it too!i finally reached my goal of having that dream come to reality ,its been a long road!dave you have been a great help even though im a little thick headed some times thanks alot dave!!!!!!!!dave-r wrote:Because the reaction time is not added to the ET I have not worried about it so far with the Chally as I have not been racing it as such and am only interested in making as good a run as possible.
The first 60ft are SO important. I have concentrated on that and only cut 0.7-1.0 RTs at best.
So I need to start thinking of that too.
Not sure what the best way is to cut a good RT to be honest?
Stage shallow and react at the yellow?
what ? i was distracted by those bouncing bobblers about to fall out!!! yea im thick skulled especially in the forehead area ,kinda like a neanderthal , but today its clear and less thick lol!RedRaven wrote:drewcrane wrote:dave you have been a great help even though im a little thick headed some times thanks alot dave!!!!!!!!
Drew you sound like me there!!!
