Found some info on my car. JH23C2B399861

Y14,E24,D34,D53,T87,B6X9,VO1,GY9,V1X,V78,C12,C16,C56,C93,B52,B41,H31,G37,G41,F11,F22,J11,J15,J21,J55,LO5,L11,L15,L25,L31,M25,M26,L65,L74,R11,S13,S25,S77,S89,W21

Interesting stuff here this car may have been ordered for a customer in Belgium and it was orginally a bronze coloured Challenger with a black vinyl roof and accent stripes transverse.

What were those codes written on? They do not look like fender tag codes as there are too many.

If they were on different lines write them out line by line so I can see where each lline starts.

They were written on a piece of paper with in the documents, I found the broadcast sheet also, I will scan it and post tomorrow!!

Is it rare to have the sheet Dave..I thought they were put in back of all the seats?

They were not always put in the cars, often the sheets were put in the wrong cars, and after 35 years of being messed around by various owners any sheet that was there has often been lost.

Top dollar restored cars always have all the correct original sheets and paperwork etc. Funny that isn't it.

Wayne, Dave is right, that broadcast sheet is very valuable, keep it in a trusted safe place because Chrysler does not allow anyone to re-produce those. It 'IS' funny how the mega-dollar cars have one but I know a couple members here that have mega dollar cars that dont.

This a a myth actually. It would be the 299861st VIN number assigned at Hamtramck for the 1972 model year, but.....

The cars were not produced sequntially by the VIN numbers. This is especially true for Hamtramck, since it had two assembly lines.

For it to have worked sequentially by VIN, one line would have had to have built cars with odd numbered VINs with the second line building cars with even numbered VINs.

Then, they would have to coordinate both lines to make sure 1 followed 2 and so on. It just did not happen this way.

Some cars that were back to back on the assembly line had VIN numbers over 1000 numbers apart. It is still an area that I am researching.

So it would be better to say it was the 299861th car ordered for production that model year?

No, performance cars were made on both lines.

Not really? Some VINs were "pulled" early if you will, the 1969 M code B-Bodies a re a good example. The VINs were assigned way before the cars were built, so I am not sure what exactly how the order sequence vs. VIN sequence was determined.

There are other cases where a VIN was used way before other cars around it were built. Some sunroof cars are like this.

So, for now I just call the last six digits the cars unique VIN number.

I am still researching this, but it may takes quite a while to determine exactly what they did do, when, how and why.

I have more questions than answers at this point.

Some people wonder what I do with all the stuff they send in, I use it to learn and educate others when possible. It also helps keep a surprising amount of people out of trouble.

I have files here on about 10,000 cars now, so it does make research easier. I still need more though, there are just too many unanswered questions.

Yes, it is very kind and respectful of them to do that. It helps keep our Challengers rising in both price and history!

Barry, if you ever come across a misplaced box of 1970 Los Angeles line documents, please post it. The "clean car" policy on that line kills me!

LA has been very hard to find any information on so far. Hopefully something surfaces someday.....
