Fender tag font for LA cars.

I couldn't find anything by searching. When did the font change on the fender tags' for LA built cars?

Here's my tag as an example. The lines are sharper, crisper.

What's the reasoning on the change? This pic is of another LA tag but the font is now standardized like the other plants?

I really hope that I am wrong (I don´t know much about this) but it gives me a bad feeling. My worry is that someone has been messing with your car/your fender tag.

My first though also Chris. The attachment screws don't seem to be in the right place either. As compared to my Challenger, it's an LA built car also.(Oct. 1969) I have no tag but the screws are in line, not offset.

They should be painted the same colour as well. There may be something askew with the font. It looks to 'crisp'. The 'go to' guy for exact reproduction tags is A.G. Backeast. His work is exceptional and 100% dimensionally correct with the correct fasteners/ rosette rivets ect..

I guess I'm a little surprised you haven't seen a font like mine christer & eddie. They are on their fair share of LA built cars.

My tag is bent a little more than usual in the upper left hand corner from when it was bent up at the factory for paint. The tag's not completely flat which gives it an optical illusion of being offset. If you want, print it out and measure the distance between the screws and the bend of the inner fender. It's the same cause I tried it. :wink:

The tag has inspector stamps on it as well. Something Backeast or anyone else doesn't replicate.

The screw's were NOT both painted the same color. The factory bent the tag up vertical with the left screw holding it down for paint. The second screw then attached the other side down, hence the screw not being painted.

I appreciate you guys' concern but I'm 99.999% sure my tag's authentic.

Now back to my original question. There must be a date when the LA factory standardized their fonts? One thing with the pix I posted is my car is a December built car and the other is October which is more intrigue. Maybe they used a separate stamp system?

Wow, I learned something new! I didnt mean to dis your tag. I thought it was supposed to be the same from plant to plant but am apparently wrong. Thanks for the tip, Ian's tag also proves what you are saying. :thumbsup:

LA had more than one fender tag stamping machine. I have seen both style fonts on cars with the same scheduled production dates for 1969, 1970 & 1971.

I also agree that one screw should be painted and one left natural on single tag cars.

If anyone has a 1970 LA or Hamtramck car and is skeptical if the tag is legit or not, email me with a clear photo of it and I will check it out for you.

Thanks Barry. I looked thru your websites as well trying to find something.

I couldn't find anything that was a pattern and thought the other fonts that weren't crisper were reproductions. I guess I owe a buddy an apology for telling him his was. :s001:

No worries eddie. Mine's for sale so I wanted to jump on any conclusions anyone may have formed. Although with the response I've gotten, it's not going anywhere. :blushes:
