Correct oil levels

Postby RedRaven » 28 Oct 2007 23:22

Hi guys,
Just want some advice on this, I check my oil levels regularly but have you experienced any incorrect reading from your dash gauges, mine reads just over half on the H to L gauge but when I check the dipstick after a couple of wipes its levels are ok.

Incidently where do you keep your oil level on the gauge, is it possible to have to much oil in the engine as in the gauge being right up to the H.

Excuse the ignorance fellas, but once I get the info in my head it stays there!!

hi redraven. that H to L gauge on your dash is for high and low oil pressure readings.it is not actually the level of oil in the motor like your dip stick will give you but it is your oil pressure. hope this helps

No need to worry about that guage unless you see it drop below it normal range. Just get used to where it normally sits at different rpms and keep an eye on it now and again.

Try not to overfill the crankcase,(the motor oil reservoir for the engine sometimes refered to as the sump or oil pan), Wayne. I fill mine to just below the full mark actually 1/2 way between full and low or add on the dipstick. Of course I check my oil all the time and smell it when I check it. With my nose, I can tell what octane fuel it had for 'dinner'

hey red my wifes car came with what is known as an idiot lite  , yea you have an oil pressure gauge , and check your oil with the stick, and dont let that gauge drop below half way for any length of time ,mopars have good pressure so you should see it go up at start up and then gradually go down as the oil warms up but not much! and watch it from time to time like dave said.
