Long Term storage

Postby Eddie » 08 Oct 2007 19:31

It's that time of year again. Soon the fall temps will plummet to the 40's then Winter :( . What do you guys do to prep your Challengers for storage. Fuel treatment? oil in the cylinders? Cooling system changes? Battery, Cover your ride with a blanket/car cover ect? :?

Wayne, I change the motor oil and filter. Place a Battery Tender with auto shutoff on the battery or simply check it from time to time and put a charger on it. I put RedLine fuel system conditioner,(one bottle to full tank), although it's not really needed because I start and run the engine every 10 days for at least 10 minutes so fresh 94 Sunoco octane is put in regularly,(Our gas is very cheap at only 2.79 Gallon). This burns the water,(condensation), from the exhaust system keeping rust corrosion at bay. Anti-freeze is 50/50 with distilled water only. Our water is lime contaminated around here. A drip coffee maker will lime completely closed in 3 months time! Wash the car to remove any dust/dirt. Then I jack the car up and place it on my "padded" truck jack stands,(3 ton), at all four corners to prevent flat spotting of the tyres. Sound OK so Far? Any additional tips let me hear em!

I agree with Eddie. :s006: Starting and running it until it comes up to temperature every so often is the best thing you can do IMHO. Also watch out what kind of car cover you use, if you use one. Many will scratch the paint or not breathe properly. Also if you use a cover watch out when running the car that you don't burn a hole in the cover (I found out the hard way with my old hotrodded 240).

I agree too! At least twice a month, you got to warm her up. Keep the fluid's movin', keep's her limber. Still, not even close to the manditory service the wife need's. Ounce of prevention rule. Good Luck, Patrick.

The simplest way has only two steps :

1) Move to California.
2) Drive every day.

Fabian, I really like your way of thinking! When I was in Cali. last I couldnt believe how many people had done just that! Los Angeles 'stretches' for over 120 miles. Much more than that actually I dont remember. The fuel can only be had in oxygenated 92? but the chicks, oh man, incredible. Wish I could go again real soon!

Thanks Ian! How cold does it get there? Have you used any Evans Coolant before? Non-Water based anti-freeze/coolant that wont leave mineral deposits in the radiator and offers superior lubrication for the water pump and front seal.

Sooo.... you say you want to visit L.A. Check this one out. Luckily it was in the truck only by-pass tunnel.

Incredible no one was killed. I was in L.A. in April 1992 for 3 weeks. Remember that date?
