living in the nyc area

i'm debating a move to the big apple...or somewhere close. i know a few of you guys are in the area around there, and i'd like to know how you guys take care of your cars. how often you drive them, where you keep them, how safe it is, etc. I understand certain areas are better than others, and i'm open to all possibilities. the main thing keeping me away from there is the lack of car interest. I know it is possible that i just dont know where to look or who to get in touch with so that i can get involved. Just looking for opinions. All the help will be greatly appreciated.

I guess Up State is cool but, all the people from New York, that I know, came out west for pretty good reason's. Wide open spaces!

Hurry though. The Californian's and the Yorky's are coming!!! Wide open space's closing in. Not just an opinion, I've been watching. A second thought. Isn't Oklahoma full of open terrain? I wouldn't make it in the Big Apple. Too many people with salty attitude's and salty air to breathe, bad for old Mopar's. High property taxes, high cost of living. But, if that's what you want to do. I was gonna say the same thing but didnt want to seem rude. I have been there numerous times. The only thing I could think aboot was getting out! Good Luck if you decide to move there and take a lot of dollars with you everytime you drive out of the city,(toll roads), I heard it takes 35.00 just to take the roads from Brooklyn to upstate or something like that. Toll roads are the 'next' big thing tax wise to affect even small towns like mine. They are currently building a super interstate system thats destroying thousands of acres of both forest and wetlands to shave off a few miles and of course to allow Mexican/South American truck shipments to the heartland and beyond. These companies are not even American owned and will have many toll areas for increasing both the state and politicians revenues at the expense of the working man. Damned politicians I abhor them! :frown:

Easy now guys....I am 35 miles from Manhattan out on Long Island and its really nice....space, beaches, decent weather and tons of Mopars everywhere....no good mechanical shops around however. So, go 20 miles in any direction out of NYC and your fine - close your eyes and you'll feel like your in the middle of the country...I love many areas of the US, especially those that have nice climates year round - Seattle is out!

Only as a tourist l know, but last year l drove across the border at Niagara Falls, into New York State, on through Pennsylvania, and into Ohio. I thought the entire journey was really nice, great coutryside etc.............Mind you it was in July!!!! (90 degrees). :s002:

I hope I didnt offend you. It's just that I am not used to large cities. I live with 25 homes in my 'area' my back yard which I dont own is at least 500 acres of corn and woods. I think for someone used to large city living, New York City would be awesome, all the gorgeous women, food bars entertainment ect...cool!!I just 'feel' crowded in thats all. :wink:

Never been east of Texas, but can say I don't like big cities like Los Angeles. Born and partly raised there. Luckily got out before it really got bad traffic wise. Still terrible air back in the 60's an 70's pre-emission control era.

Seems to me climate makes a bigger difference the older I get. Hot spells of a week or more in the 95-100 range really are a drag. As for snow we get a little but are some 30 miles from the coast so it melts in a day. Snowed in for even a month is unimaginable. I'm thinking about looking into the coastal areas of Oregon someday. Getting way too many people here in California.

I here you Jon. I lived in Sacramento for almost two years, although beautiful, traffic was a hassle, I had never seen 8 lanes one way until I reported there for duty, and 85 MPH traffic! This is right out my back door and around my home. My neighbors all know me and watch out for the R/T, they better, I gave them all rides!! :mrgreen:

I never lock my doors,cars, ect..the neigborhood kids go to school 100 yards down the road. It's a terrific family oriented area. Lots of kids, fresh air, and very friendly courteous people. I do admire those that can live in an urban enviornment, I cant handle the stress, it makes me violent :rage:

I think daily traffic is the most stressful thing one can do on a daily basis, I dont know how they do it?

My street is situated on high ground,(Terre Haute means high ground in French, correct me if I'm wrong Fabian) :mrgreen:

but there are numerous flood plains. The water would have to get very very high to reach me. The entire city is lower than our general area.If you enhance the photo you can see the Dodge Trucks, thats my place. :mrgreen:

Ah I forgot to mention. Disregard the date. Dave had to 'hold my hand' and 'show me' how to use this Damned thing. remember my age, I hate some of these new devices man, it's too complicated for my neandrethal way of thinking :biggrin:

I am approx. 60 miles from both Indianapolis Race Way Park and The Indy 500!!!And most importantly INDY Cylinder Head is located there as well,(I dont like going there however, I probably seem like an overeager idiot drooling and wide eyed, they have to force me to leave). :thumbsup:

My brother is a deer hunter,(Bow), he keeps bugging me to go this year but I hate the cold,(all the steel billet in my freaking body man) :tears:

I havent been hunting in over 20 years. :frown:

I am seriously thinking about it Pat. I dont Bow Hunt like he does. Instead I use a 12.Ga. Slug gun. If it's not too bad I'll go this year. We are overpopulated with whiteTail Deer. You can 'bag' as many as 14 in one season, if you get all the tags. If I eat it I'll kill it. Only for that reason though. I am not a hunter that kills for sport. Totally against that. I dont even eat that much meat, maybe once a week. He wants to get a 12 pt. or larger Buck as he has gotten a 10 pt. I have only bagged 1 deer my whole life, about 20 yrs. ago. it was a button buck weighed about 120 lbs. dressed. Pretty small really. My wife hunts me down daily, I want to get in good shape if she ever ambushes my arse!! :s024:

BTW, my favorite type of hunting is mushroom hunting. We have experienced the worst years on record the last five years or so. I only found about 5-7 shrooms last season,(April), this little guy,(PeckerHead), was found in two hours of deep woods searching. I gave up after this and look forward to next year, I usually find pounds of em! I dont eat them either! Nasty fungus! They are a thrill to find, I give em to the old folks around here, they pay 25.00 a pound for em. I would rather eat a snickers candy bar! Or a pizza even fish&chips would be great!

They look like False Moral's to me. Good to eat!!! What I look for here in the NorthWest, especially during hunting season, are the shantrail's. Spell check on that one. Golden Shrum's, No Death Cap!. I look for those when I look for Deer. I love venison. Raised with it my whole life. Deer and Shrum's, Yum, Yum! Plus Spud's and all the other Veggie's. I'll check out those shantrail's, and post some pic's. After I get done with my Chore's. Pat

I forgot to tell you Drew, that corn you see is FEED Corn or Seed Corn. It's to fatten cattle up for Slaughter or plant more corn to fatten... you get the idea! You couldn't pay me to eat the veggies or Fish caught around here. Pfizer pharmacueticals owns that Land. Lord only knows why it 'glows' in the dark. :twisted:

To top that off, Eli Lilly is only 10 miles away and NewPort Army Ammunition plant which stores the Worlds largest supply of VX is 15 miles away! I cook and drink with bottled water. At one time Pfizer made all kinds of biological weapons there for the govt. There are old N.B.C. bunkers all around here! The roads around the plant only freeze when it gets way below zero degrees! Cancer is on the rise in this City! Other than that it's paradise! :twisted:

I dont hate these Plants. It provides jobs and of course chemicals and medicine. :s006:

That's up north, east of Tacoma. About 200 mile's from here, I think. That's the place were Gary Ridgeway,AKA,"The Green River Killer" dumped, I think 48 women, that he killed. Yike's! Big new's around here for a while.
