trunk rubber

I replaced the trunk rubber seal from year one.Assuming I received the proper one I installed it and now the trunk is binding on the rubber, seems that the rubber gasket is to thick, will this compress over time, is this normal and a new car off the assembly line would fit correct right away. Whats your thoughts?

I just fitted a new trunk seal on my 1970 Challenger and although it was not as tight as the one Pat fitted to his later model it was still making it tricky to get the trunk shut.

After I glued mine in place I slammed the trunk shut and left it for a few days. After that it shuts easily every time now. So it must have compressed.

Thanks for the reply. will try and talk to year one about my problem and see if they will replace it. From the looks of it .it has a long way to go before it sit right ,it's to thick around the hinges area and the trunk seems to pivot there. Hasn't flattened yet and thats been 3 weeks now

Didn't Pat solve the problem by talking to YO?. They should take care of you too. They replaced parts for me at not charge including the cost for shipping them back. Please let us know which replacement you are finally happy with.

called year one today and they will send me a rubber for 70-72 .He said this one is much softer.Should have been conpressed after a few days hope this works as i am at the end of a complete restoration.

Gilbert, that would be great if Y.O. send's that seal no charge. I didn't even try. Just paid half as much for the 70-71 or 2 seal. Cut my loss in favor of Education. :roll:

The 73-74 seal was way too meaty. And trust me, it will never relax. I had mine in there for a good part of a year. Maybe they've gotten enough input on this, that they'lle change something. Year One is a pretty good outfit. :thumbsup:

Send some pic's of that car gilbert, we all want to see.

Jon, didn't you get yours to fit right with the early style seal?

year one send me the 70-72 year trunk rubber at no charge and once installed the trunk closed perfect the first try. They should just throw the 73-74 rubbers in the bin because they will never work
