first off, HI! haven't spoken on here in quite a while, challneger's been out of service, on account of me trying to finish up college.

this is a 1970 RT/SE. here is what i know it to have by looking at it, without the fender tag being there.

black bumble bee stripe
luggage rack
gator grain vinyl top
black seats w/ salt and pepper inserts
cruise control
electric windows
overhead console
power steering
power disk brakes
a/c
383 and 727
small back window
wide chrom trim on doors and hood
the hood is there, just not on the car.
havent found the engine.

now the kicker. this car is not fenced in. just hangin out in a field off of the road a ways. it, along w/ other non valuable cars, is in "probate" in court here in oklahoma. the old man died and left his stuff to nobody....and aparently its been there for a while. I desperately want to get this car...just tryin to find the best way to do it. before i start looking for people to talk to, i wanted to know how much any of you guys would pay for it. i have an ammount in my mind...just curious your amount.

You haven´t mentioned anything about the most important thing - RUST :!:

It looks fairly rustfree from what I see but how is the floor and the frame? If they are OK and in good condition then I imagine that you can get up to $10K for it on ebay. (I have no idea if I am right or wrong. It is just a guess.)

Don't they have to auction all the things, the gentleman left behind ?
If not, I would buy it fast, before someone else does. You can get it probably real cheap. Good luck. And please let us know as soon you bought it.

i do think they have to do it at an auction. i was also told though, that they after they get the land taken care of, (which means the state will gain property of it) they will just haul the cars off to the crusher. i dont know how accurate that is though. i have some people trying to run the vin down at the DMV so we're gonna see what we can come up with. i'm also going to go back and start digging through all the other cars and taking any license plate numbers so that i might be able to get a name or registration on at least one of the cars. i'll keep ya posted. any more estimates on what is a fair price?

It looks to be in pretty solid shape. Just to let you "know" I looked at a 440-4, 70 R/T, auto, parts missing, HEAVY RUST, the guy said he would let it rot before he let it go for anything less than 8,000! It's still there from what I understand.

It feels like there is good reason why no-one has picked it up - RUST!

Some sellers have a pricing of their own - just impossible to understand for others. Just let them be.

It was the first R/T I looked at, in a place called DANA Ind.!!It was beyond repair the rust had "claimed" everything deep into the frame stubs and the whole firewall/cowl. In some peoples minds the vehicle is thought of as it was in better times. This was in 1997 so that car is probably no more.

Bring originally from Oklahoma and still having family, I called some Oklahoma (State Office) Lawyer friends of mine on this issue.

They validated that the car/cars will go to auction and that it would be highly unlikely (unless you had connections) that these car/cars would be sold prior to any auction. They also told me that they would not go to a crusher unless they were unable to be sold at the auction. As to the auction/auctions, I was told that many cities/counties conduct these and post them in the local newspaper, hopefully that will help you in your search.

Ultimately, the state government is involved now and it will be a process.

well guys, here is the update.

i went to the county assessor, and found the current address of the land owner. went to the ladies house, and she said the cars were her brother's. she called her brother (who is alive and kickin, haha) and i asked him if he would be interested in selling them. he went on to give me the typical speech of:

"oh i used to have over 100 cars out there and sold the ones i didn't want. i've had that challenger for over 20 years, so i'll probably just keep it."

so i say " well ok, thanks for your time, would you mind if i called back in a few months to see where you're at then"

he replies with, "haha well buddy, you can call if you want, but i've had the car for 20 years, i highly doubt 2 months is gonna matter. you can do what you want though."

so yeah, the guy sucks. another beautiful car will die in the spot it is in.

Very sorry to hear it. You can only "go" so far. Sounds a lot like the "mensa" members we have here. Typical hillbilly ignorance!!!If ah cant have it aint no one gonna have it neether!!I can just picture that dude!!!Although I wouldnt, it does make one wish for the courage to do something illegal! Damn, it is sooo solid and ripe!!! I think what that car would look like as well, such a shame, is there anyway family can "work" on him?

Yeah I dont know. Selfishness and lack of care. Majority of these people dont know how to let go. then some of them do it just like 'Eddie said...."If i can't, then nobody can..."

when I talked to the lady who owns the land, she called her brother and gave me the phone. so i didn't get his direct number. driving back to my house feeling defeated, i thought ya know. i want his number. i will call him again. so i called the lady, Karen, and asked her for her brothers number. she gave it to me, and now i have it. a month down the road i'll hit him up again. see whats goin on, maybe over time i can get it.

even though the guy likes mopars, is alive, and not old enough to have a foot in the grave already, i really dont think he knows the value. the way he talked, its just an old car to him and he doesn't wanna get rid of it. so yeah, im gonna work on him periodically.

I am sorry to hear that. Don´t give up and you will get it in the long run. I am sure about that. Have you asked him if he is willing to trade it for something? It can be worth a try. Try to phone him every second month one week before pay-day. Try to stay calm and not show what you really feel. It will just make him even more anxious too keep it. I am sure that he will give up if you keep on phoning him. Good luck. :nod:

Of course you dont want to "show your hand" but if all else fails you could try one of two things. Do your local laws allow "salvage" vehicles to "lay" around your property. Ours changed recently, unless you have permit for business and are registered with the local,state, and fed. govt. for E.P.A, violations you cannot leave these vehicles to rot. They WILL fine you on a DAILY basis if discovered,(a phone call away). Another, do you know his sister and can you convince her to talk to him? Of course both options may bring good results or start a war. :s004:

Litemup, I would go there again, talk to him, offer him one or two thousand dollars in cash and show him the bills. That usually works with some people (I hope I did not offend someone now). If he still does not sell, I suggest you look for another car. There are lots of nice cars out there.....

There was a 70 Challenger 440 4-barrel 4-speed for sale at the last Spring Fling. It had been at the bottom of a fresh-water pond, was covered with a thin layer of mud and the guy who brought it had started with a price of..... are you sitting down????? $40,000 at the 2006 MOPARs at the Strip. He was down to $30,000 by the end of the Spring Fling with no takers. He wanted all the payoff one might get from restoring and selling the car without doing an ounce of the work..... now THAT's greed but at least he got it out of the water!

1600.00 for an N.O.S. box! That's 300 more than I paid for my chrome racing mirrors which were N.O.S. and I thought very badly of the man after I bought them, and will never deal with the scheister again! I sold an almost N.O.S. original 1970 T/A Challenger duckbill spoiler that had been included with the car at time of purchase, it was marked and date coded, for 200.00, to a man that was restoring his T/A Challenger to original condition. At first I felt that I had undercharged him but realised I had made a good friend and valuable contact. :thumbsup:

I bet that hoodpin kit is "new" and he found an nos box! They arent numbered coded or marked otherwise are they? I know for a fact that many "N.O.S." shaker parts that are on greed bay are from Northwest Performance,(Ben Snobars stuff), not him personally, but "scheisters" that buy parts from him. They were selling N.O.S. fuel filters at the show for 85.00 bucks! (non performance engines like 318, 400, 360 in 2bbl form).

The price-level has just gone wild on some of the parts. At least some of the sellers believe that. Sad that some people doesn´t have any limits at all. Gold-diggers! Blinded by the $$$-signs.
