I have a '73 318 top banana, the rear panel (which houses the lights) etc is currently painted silver.... the question is should it be this colour ? or maybe matt black? or ???

any help appreciated...

Many thanks.

It has always been my understanding for the 72 - 74 Challengers, factory rallye cars were black and rest were silver; even the 340 non rallye cars.

REAR PANEL COLOUR

Check to photo of my 74. This is an original car, and the rear panel cover should be argent silver.

In black, the correct color is called Organosol Black (Lacquer). Both the silver and the black have a rough texture to them and available through year-one.

This is what I still believe (from another thread):

Anyone else have an opinion?

If I understand the ´72 and ´74 Facts an Feature manuals correct, the base Challenger and the rallye Challenger used different colours (on the tail panel) only in 1972 and in 1973.

On the other hand, in ´74, both the base challenger and the rallye used the same colour on the tail panel.

Don´t know if that is correct or not....? (....but that is how I interpret the Facts and feature manuals)
