T/A engine numbers

Postby 70 340 » 25 Jan 2007 13:14

Hi I have a 340ci block and the first few numbers on it are FW340P and from what i understand the P is for high performance block. I was wanting to find out if the T/A blocks had this P as well or did they have somthing els? Any help would be great.

You do know that 340 standard block was different in "bottom end " construction than the T/A 340 block?

T/A blocks do have the P and also a S for "special" The T/A blocks also have their own casting number that is different from other 340 engines.

Thanks for your replys. Yes I do know that the bottom end construction in a T/A block is different. I just would like to know how to identify one by the numbers. I got a book called challenger and barracuda restoration guide 1967-1974 and found the answer i was after

340ci 4 bbl casting numbers 2780930-340

340ci 3x2-bbl casting numbers 3577130TA

If the letter S or the letters H P follow the displacement code, this denotes a high performance block. That is what the book comes up with.

airfueleddie, Sorry I dont any pics of the motor. The motor is in my 1970 challenger (matching numbers) it is a A66 car. 1970 challenger only 340ci performance package. When I decoded the motor and found out that the P after the displacement ment high performance block that made me wounder what the T/As had.
