WOW  , it can´t get much better than that! Even close-ups on Dick Landy´s shifting technique. Didn´t know that he was smoking all the way down the quarter-mile either (or was it just a camera gimmick?) Thanks a lot!

Great, thanks dave. I enjoy any Chrysler nostalgia racing info. I definitely saved that one.I still can't believe that Gene Snow would get into the trouble he is in now. That "spleef" Dandy Dick has in his mouth is a trademark, wonder what his "brand" is?

Gimmick. His trademark. He used to actually smoke the thing in his early days but was stopped. So to maintain his trademark he just stuck an unlit one in his mouth when driving. There was no rule against that. :D

This is the race I saw. They have the year wrong. It was 1980 for sure because I missed the 1979 event. I was getting married at the time!

Raymond Beadle and Gene Snow pair off for one of the best funny car races seen in the UK.
The final of the 1979 Santa Pod World Series. Snow runs 6.04 while Beadle runs 6.00 making it the fastest side by side funny car races in Europe at that time.
Startline Footage.
File Size 335kb
Running Time 9 Sec.
Format Quicktime (.mov)

I knew that it was his trademark but I had no idea that he actually was smoking while driving (You mean at every race, right?).
It feels a little hefty to me :s014: .... but cool. :s009:

He had a cigar in his mouth every time he raced it was not alight.

I see the video has now been removed for some reason? :? :(

It is not easy to save from Youtube but you can get it from your cache (.flv file), or go to http://www.keepvid.com/ , or there is proprietary software too.

Hopefully It will be in my cache at home? :s008:

You didnt hear about the "snowman"? He was arrested again,(8th time), for raping a underaged boy, do a google on it. Unbelievable, he was one of my teenage heroes, all them moPar dudes were. I guess Genes new saying is "theres no more joy than a big butted boy"!

Yeah, Dave me neither! I too am shocked, feel sorry for the young man, and hope if he's guilty, he's incarcerated. In this country the real punishment for that offense begins once you arrive inside. Man I am glad I saved mine to file! Thats probably the best 6 minutes Ive seen in a while! Landy IS the man, stoogy and all!

Yep, that's the one!

Funny though, his web site (http://www.garyglitter.tk/) forgets to mention this interesting part of his personality.

But of course, Wikipedfia is much more documented, even if it lacks the style and flamboyance of Dave's writings

I was a big Glitter fan when I was at school. Went to see him twice. The last time was only a year before all this under age sex stuff came out.

Damn shame.

But not that suprising really. My guess is that many of the "glam rock" bands of the 70s slept with under age girls. That was their fanbase after all.

Gary was on a childs TV show back in the day performing a single called "do you want to touch" with Michael Jackson type crotch grabbing.

Even though I was only in my teens myself I thought it was a bit much for the audience of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.

Another clue I found was in a 1970s girls magazine I bought as a gift for my wife. In it they were saying what kind of boyfriend the various pop stars of the day would make.
It is funny that they were kind about all of them except G.G. For him they said he wouldn't make a very good boyfriend and hinted he might "hurt" a girl.

So I guess people really knew all about it back then but closed their eyes to it?

Yes a shame, he among other men and women of MoPar made an influence in my life and helped "strengthen" my Chrysler ties. He will be sorely missed and is the fourth Pro-Stock Drag Racer from the golden era to succumb in the last 12 months. :frown: I have also been informed that Bobby Hamilton the former DODGE Nascar truck series Champion has succumbed to cancer, very bad time for MoPar former MoPar racers. Godspeed! :V8:
