Diffrence between 383's

What are the differences between the 330 hp 383 and the 335 hp 383 ?

Slightly bigger cam and a Holley Carb instead of the Carter.

Cam lift 330hp = .431/.443

Cam lift 335hp = .455/.470

The power difference of 5 hp is neither here no there. You could double that difference just by blocking off the heat passage through the intake.

And I thought it was the color of the engine. Thanks for the info. It is interesting that they are both coded E63. I wonder how the production workers kept them straight? Do you know the correct color of the pie tin on the air cleaner?

Could be red or orange. Most Challengers seem to have an orange lid. You would be right either way.

The 330hp 383 probably had "four barrel" on it and the 335hp version "Magnum".

But Chrysler was never one to sticking to the "rules".

As for production I would guess the engines were labled (plus the paint colour) and then the VIN stamped before it was placed in the car intended for it?
