Just to be different..... :D

This is a photo I took last autum of a house we found while on a high level 10 mile hike between two valleys in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. This house was boarded up but looked like it had been occupied a few years before. It was at least 4 miles from anything like a decent footpath let alone a road. It looked very very creepy even in the full light of day. I half expected to see a lady in grey around every corner of it or a face at the window. :s008:

That is my wife Diana in the foreground.

My good friend Tim did a bit of photoshopping on it to make it look even more spooky.

Mt. Temple

Postby PaknSix » 05 Feb 2006 18:06

I didn't go hiking in the Rockies last year...need some inspiration to go this July. I climbed the Saddleback and Fairview Mtn at Lake Louise last time, now I have to find out what the view from on top of Mt. Temple is like. :-)

Oooh! I like doing that. :D

Our pathetic 2500ft-4400ft "hills" are tiring enough to get up (for an old bloke like me) but i would love to get up on to of those Rockies.

I cheated last time and got the cable car most of the way up Whistler above Jasper.

I did walk to the head of Lake Louise and back along the higher level path that comes past that bee hive shaped bit with the small lake but that was probably less that a quarter of the way up that hillside? My wife was not very confident about heights back then.

Most of those Mountains there look too big to get up and back in one day to me. I don't know how you do it.

That's Lake Agnes, with the Tea House on the shore. The switchback leading up to the Big Beehive would do in most people out for a days walk. Nice view of Lake Louise from there.
I spend more time preparing for the vacation that I do on the hikes themselves. Have to make the best of it while there or there's no really point if I'm sitting around with a sore everything. I plan for a balance between the difficulties of the hikes and being out to take photographs, always have to have one real challenging hike in the mix.

a few of my hiking photos are here... http://community.webshots.com/album/174060283GWgAEL

...don't want to hijack this thread with outdoors talk :-)

You take a good photograph mate. I will have to get some of mine up in a gallery like that to show you. I am a rubbish photographer but the UK Lake District landscape still looks good.

Thanks Dave, I'm still learning, it'll make for a good retirement hobby.

Those are great shots of yours Dave. Any time you want to go back to the mountain, just put the picture on the PC, put your feet up and you're there! The UK Lakes District is nearest to...? I have to make a note of that, beautiful scenery there.

The Lake District takes up most of the far North West of England. Only a couple of hours drive along Hadrians Roman Wall from the Eastern side where I live.
