hello guys, i was just reading some post and thought ot myself what would give a 440 more power, a dual quad setup or 6-pack. It would probably depend on the size of quads you put together, and i don't even know how big you could go...any ideas?

It depends on how muh fuel your motor can utilize. Larger or more carbs does not necessarily mean more power. There aere many more factors to horsepower. Hope this helps.

Well lets say a stock 1970 440 magnum....i don't plan on doing this im just wondering how big you could go and how much one would really gain..

You wouldn't gain anything over a correctly sized 4bbl. In fact a bigger carb on a stock engine will reduce low end power and throttle response.

A six pack will work on a stock 440 engine as the centre carb is small and it runs on that most of the time. When it needs more than what the centre carb can deliver the outer two carbs open just enough for what is needed. You do get a second of hesitation when flooring it though.

If you modify the engine a six pack has plenty in reserve to feed it.

Two 4bbls do not work very well except at full throttle. Mainly because of the way they have to sit over the intake runners so you get a very poor fuel/air distribution at part throttle positions. Plus the intakes are usually low profile dual planes that do not work well for power anyway.

So to sum up;

If you wanted to fit a six pack just for looks on your stock 440 go right ahead. If you were later going to add more power to the engine it will cope with some tuning.

However there will be no power gain over a correctly sized 4bbl and they cost a lot of money.
