Exhaust recommendation

Postby John Turner » 27 Jan 2006 19:20

318 four barrell with Headman Headers. I hear about H pipes and X pipes,
is that just for big blocks, or will it work on small blocks? do I really need this? How bout those bolt on kits you can get? any recommendations on those? what kind of exhaust system do you guys run?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thx!

Dynomax mufflers for a start.

Use an X-pipe if you want. It is supposed to be the most efficent.

Otherwise use a H-pipe.

Both of these are also known a "ballance pipes". They help scavenge the exhaust out of the engine and produce more low end torque. They also make the exhaust a little quieter.

If you don't use some sort of ballance pipe the exhaust will have what I feel is a better sound as each exhaust pulse comes from alternative pipes. However it will also be louder and you will loose some low end torque although peak HP will not be effected.

Use a max diameter of 2.5 inches on the pipes. Min of 2.25 inches.
