any news here?

i need to replace the electrical system of my car...

the Painless kit is Mopar specific but Summit offers an universal kit for half the price.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D890021&N=4294925143+4294871297+400304+115&autoview=sku

is a good alternative or i need to forget about it and go to the Painless kit?

thanks

You can use the universal kit if you want.

The advantage of the Mopar kit is that the wires are color coded the same as original and I think (?) that some sort of bulkhead connector/fuse box is used that fits in the same place.

With the universal kit you will have to blank off where the bulkhead connector was and run all the wires through a large gromit.

i just had a look at the link you posted & it says the ignition is dash mounted not column mounted like it is in a challenger you may want to ask them some questions to see what the compatability is

As you can see the bulk head connector is nothing like factory and will not even fit in the same spot. I have been trying to figure out a way to mount the fuse box and cover the factory hole.. Would still need to get the engine harness through the fire wall cleanly. Another issue is there are no connectors except for the headlight bulbs, but all fourpin connectors and the push on connectors for the dash guages and electronics are going to need to be swapped from the old harness, I have to seriously consider using the old harness that is still and good shape and ebay this one?????

on the positive note: all the wires are labeled for the exact component that it goes to, (ie left taillight, dome light ground, ect.)

These kits are supposed to come with all the connectors you need. I thought they advertised as such??

I would complain to Painless about this.

Hate to say it...but we've had other priorities one on top of another here at home and work.
My car has just been sitting there waiting on me.I haven't even had a chance to start on it.
But...I just about have the garage cleaned out enough to have room to store the interior and anything else I remove when I start tackling the harness.
I'll post any updates I can as soon as I can get started on it.

On another note...I went to our local "cruise night" tonight, and there were 3 different Challengers there that kind of lit a fire in me to get mine going.
There was a green 72,red 72,and an absolutely beautiful Panther Pink '70 T/A out there.I took some pics and will post them in a couple days.

I like the way this guy is doing his Charger. I had been thinking about doing something along these lines myself. With the cables anyway.

I am a solid 28 man hours into this project and it is getting close. stay tuned for my gripe list of suggestions for painless .... sorry the photos are poor but the good camera is on a trip with the wife.

As anyone who has wired knows the photos cannot show the time spent in routing, soldering, wrapping and then unwrapping and re-routing and transfering connectors from the old harness to the new harness. yuk!

Keep it coming!

We need to see all the problems with this kit and maybe we can mass email Painless.
