There is a 1971 Challenger on Ebay right now that claims a "matching numbers 400" , but the 400 was not available and the car VIN says it came with a 383. Very cool car though, here is the link;

71 CONV WITH 400 ENGINE

Postby 1130 » 29 Sep 2005 19:00

THANKS FORTHE REPLY. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE SEEN. ON WWW.MYMOPAR.COM UNDER ENGINE CASTING NUMBERS IT SHOWS 71-72 WITH 400 2BBL ECN(3614230). I ALSO HAVE A RELATIVE THAT HAS GOOD FRIEND THAT WORKS AT BARRETT JACKSON, AND HE ASK HIM ABOUT THIS AND HIS REPLY WAS : THERE WAS 8 CARS IN 71 THAT HAD 400 ENGINES AND HE HAS ONE. I DID FIND A SITE OTHER THAN MY MOPAR THAT SHOWED 71 MODEL WITH 2BBL AND A 4BBL, BUT I DID NOT SAVE THIS SITE. SO, WHEN I FIND IT I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS. THANKS-

Maybe I should have been more specific? some 400 CID engines were cast in 1971, but the 400 engine was not available in the Challenger.
