What to do, What to do.

I have a good idea of the Challenger I,m looking for very similar to what I had years ago but I have some questions.

Does it matter if it's a number matching car?
How much does that add to the value?

Does it matter if you change the color from the original?
What's the benfit to clone a car? Why would I want to?
A clone I would think would be of less value than the real thing.
Just looking for advice.

Numbers matching is nice if it's a rare car. If its you average 318 with a 904 tranny, I would not kill the check book to get a matching car. Now, a 440 Shaker or Convertible big block, time to spend the $$ to keep it matching.

Ultimately, is the car for collection and $$ appreciation, or do you want to drive it?? If you want to drive it, make it any color and combination you can afford (stay tuned, because you can spend a bundle) and enjoy.

If you are looking for an investment, find a sought after car, keep it matching and original. Then go buy a toy you can drive to keep the temptation down.

Have fun!

Ps. don’t buy a crate motor :s005:

Well if you have two or three million dollars you might be able to buy a hemi convertible. Prices have got THAT silly.

If you have not got that kind of money a quality clone that only cost $20,000 to build yourself from parts makes a lot of sense don't you think?

Numbers matching effects the price less these days because ANY e-body in good condition will fetch good money. But if someone is looking to buy a car for correct restoration they will not even look at non-mumbers matching cars.

Same with fender tags and build sheets. If the car has one or both of these it will sell much easier. If it has neither you can't tell what the car came with originally so restorers will steer clear.

It sounds to me you want to build a car YOUR way. In other words it will be more like a clone. In that case it does not matter to you what car you start with or if it is numbers matching or not. But if it IS numbers matching it will cost you more to start with and you will be de-valuing it down to non-matching prices by changing stuff.
