New car for resto. Let me know what do you think about it

Hello, My name is Peter, I just found this car at my friend s garage in Belgium. He asks 3500 EUR for it. He is the first owner, car has done 62000 km, it was put in the garage 15 years ago and since then nobody touched it, at that time it was working condition, car is complete. It has 318 engine, year 74.

I will appreciate your opinions and advices. In two weeks I am going to take a closer look on it. Photos are not perfect as thse are photos of the photos made by digital camera.

I am looking forward for your comments.

Just for information.

3500 Euros is $4550.00 USD which, if the car is rust free and complete, I think is a good price.

But what do I know? Any other opinions out there?

I agree with Dave, thats a very fair price - for both of you. Be honest with yourself about your intentions for the car. Make sure your paying for what you need (ie. solid body) - and buying because that is what you want. I say this because it's easy to see the car as a whole, being worth the money, but once you end up replacing everything and sourcing needed parts wanted (440, trani, dash, seats, rechrome bumpers, rear end, ......), you may be better with the purchase of another car.

Although, even if you were going to replace everything – a rust free straight body to work from (steel fenders, perfect frame rails etc.) would be worth the money being asked. Looks like a very nice car - panels all sit tight and pretty (with little work).

If the car is rust-free (or almost rust-free), complete and easy to get in running order, then I think it is a bargain.
WATCH OUT FOR RUST!!!!

Do you plan to do the most of the work yourself!? Otherwise it will be costly.

Look like someone decided to bolt on a power hood at one point. If this were mine, and money was a factor, I would bolt on the power hood, clean it up, leave the 318 alone (except for a 4 barrel or maybe a SIX PACK) add some paint and drive off. The dash pad looks somewhat suspect. This can be fixed (what a job) or you could glue on a cap. Some of these dash caps look good and cost less than a new dash pad. Good luck!!!

I can't see anything wrong with the dash from those photos myself (except for the body filler dust) and if it has lived in Europe all it's life it would be unusual to be damaged.

Look at the top of the stearing wheel. Something looks odd here. Either the top of the insturment cluster in bent down a little of it's something with the dash pad.

I see what you mean but I think it is a trick of the light or the way the dirt is covering that bit. When I follow the lines with my eye it looks OK to me.

But I guess the real answer would be to see it for real. It is unusual for a car kept in the Northern half of Europe to get sun/heat damage on a dash pad. We just don't get that much sun!
