Mirror Threaded Plug

Postby roadrunner » 24 Apr 2005 13:00

There appears to be a threaded plug in the door panel that the mirror BASE screw threads into. Any thoughts on where I can get these?? I lost 2 during mirror removal. They (plugs) are factory and must be some sort of expanding plug.

They are an insert that is installed with a gun that looks like a rivet gun. I think this has been discussed on here before. Can't remember what was said on the subject though... :?

Thanks Dave. I will continue to poke around and see what I can locate. It's not real easy to put your hand in the top of the door panel to put a nut on an attachment screw.

They are called Riv-nuts and I found a local hardware store who sells the gun to put them in. The goods tools are quite expensive. I think Year One sells the steel riv-nuts but not the tool to put them in. I found some aluminum riv-nuts and will try them out, heck they work well on aircraft!

Keep me posted. What was the name of the hardware store? I did manage to have my son who has small hands snake his way up through the door panel and put a nut on a bolt to hold it (mirror) in place. However, I do need to remove the mirror again to tighten the bolt that attaches the mirror to the suport that attaches to the door. So if I can get one of these nuts to work it would sure be easier.
Thanks :)
