installing headers

Whats the easiest way to install headers on a 70 challenger with a 440?
1.Having them bolted on motor as motor goes in?
2.putting them in from above the motor while motor is in?
3.putting in from under the car while motor is in?

I think the easiest way is bolted to the engine first with the engine bolted to the K-frame and the whole lot lifted up into the car from below.

However I have not tried that myself so don't know for sure.

Another way might be to put the headers into the engine bay and lower the engine in after.

Second way is fitting the headers from below with the engine in place. This is the most common method. It involves unbolting the engine mounts and jacking the engine over as far as it will go to install each side. You will also need to raise the front of the car by about 30 inches. Using a mini starter will help too but they need some minor mods to fit right. The headers themselves will need some "adjusting" with a hammer unless they are VERY good quality items such as the TTI headers.

Trying to fit the headers from above with the engine in place is impossible.

The easiest way is to pull the engine out, drop the headers in and tie them against the inner fenders, then slowly drop and position the engine and finally bolt them on. I single handily did it this way and it was extremely easy. Good luck.
