Yup. On the R/T the stripe (with r/t cut-out) was a no cost extra. You ordered the stripe or the bee stripe around the tail or you could "stripe delete" and have no stripe at all.

On non-R/T cars I believe you could order a side stripe at extra cost. This one did not have the R/T cut-out like the one on your Dad's car.

I guess the guy who owned it before just put a solid stripe and didnt know it should have had R/T because it is a True R/T the vin number is JS23N0E106275.

Did it come from the factory with a side stripe at all? It will have V6X on the fender tag if it did.

It is also possible the factory made a mistake. They were well known for it. However if the car has been re-painted and or the stripe replaced at some time you would need proof that it came like this.

Heres the fender tag as you can see it has the V6X option. And plus since it did come from Los Angelas i wouldnt doubt if the potheads put on a solid stripe

I think it is more likely the last owner put the wrong stripe on when he re-painted it. Is that top the actual original too?

Yes everything on the car is all original. The challenger is at a body shop where the top is being restored. *Grinded down to bare metal/ Rust Preventer/Primer/Paint/New Vinyl* and were done with the top. were also getting the whole car painted and the drivers floor pan put it. All well need left is Engine work and interior.

You will have to stop calling it "original" now then and start using the word "restored".
