dome lite-door pin switches??

Postby Tooch » 13 Nov 2004 23:42

i hope this doesnt sound dumb, but,if you have 2 wires going to the dome lamp and the red is hot shouldnt the yellow be ground? the door switches have 2 wires, yellow also and the switch interupts the circuit when the door is closed turning the lamp off...right? well then why do i have 12.4 volts in the yellow wires when i test them and 12.4 volts in the red when tested and the lamp wont lite...but wait,it gets better.both wires on both sides were taped apart and tucked behind the kick panels.ok so i go to penstar and get the switches but before i install i check the circuits and have hots all over, probably why the tapejob, oh ,another thing i sit here for an hour studying the 70 fac/man and for my life i cant see where dodge says body ground or hot, anyway is the door switch circuit supposed to be a ground interupt, cause then all i got to do is isolate the the cicuit feed yellow, making it a ground system. thanks, and rub your eyes now, they probably hurt...TOOCH

THE RED IS ACUTALLY A PINK HOT WIRE THAT gets it's power from the same source as the brake lights.
The yellow is the wire that goes to the pin switches in the doors. when the door opens, it grounds out the yellow wire turning on the dome light.

there could be 2 wires that go to the pin switches- yellow for the dome, yellow with a black tracer- for the "key in the buzzer and/or timed light for the ing.switch option.

my best guess is that the door pin switch is bad. Take the yellow wire and ground it to the body and the dome light should come on!!!

This may sound like a dumb question (I've only had mine a day) but can you switch the dome light on without opening the door?

Yes! You turn the dash instrument panel dimmer knob all the way to one side (same as on all modern Mopars/Jeeps). That is what you do on the rallye dash anyhow. I have never operated a standard dash.

Check out the electrical section on here for a circuit diagram.

Good luck hunting for those missing electrons. They must be hiding somewhere. :wink2:
