440 to 500 cui

Postby Chrippa » 23 Oct 2004 12:04

Hi all!

I have a few questions about the 440 -> 500 strokerkit from Hughes Engines.
Has anybody used the kit ? Is there any major problem with stroker kits?
I just got over a 440 block with STD bore, have been thinking to build a stroker for a long time!

Is there any problems with sixpak and stroker ?

I think im gonna go with Edelbrock prepped heads from Hughes!

Is this a good combo?
Its all gonna sit in a Chally in the end!

Cheers Christoffer

Drawbacks include much more torque at all rpms and the potential to make huge amounts of horsepower. Gas economy may also suffer!

The only real drawback is increased piston speed but unless you are building a Pro Stocker I would not worry too much about that.

GO FOR IT! :D

Well then i see no option but to go for it

I got a ride with my friends 71 Challenger with an stroker 440 , est. 600 HP ... I just cant get the feeling out of my head! I just know i need to have one :D

But there should be no problem to get a sixpak on top of the setup ? I just got my hand on a -69 sixpak manifold and carbs! Im very keen on using them !

Dave : Do you know if hughes sell flexplates , didnt find any on the site?
The stroker kit did not include harmonic balancer and flexplate.

Cheers all!

They sell the balancer but I think you will need to find a flex plate from somewhere that sells transmissions or trans parts.
