Just out of interest does anyone make a taller filter element for the six pack? I would buy one!

Oh boy, guess if I am tempted to buy a R/T hood or not? I am! The hood on the photo is for sale for US$1000 (the same as £560), and the seller lives next door to me. You can´t buy them any cheaper (or less expensive is maybe more correct) here in Sweden. If I buy a higher intake first :idea:

Seeing this makes me sick!!! I have been restoring my 340 4 speed car and couldn't resist putting a six pack on it. I have completely refinished the power hood and it is setting on a table. After eyeballing it I thought it would fit if I used a stock 6 pack air cleaner base that fits an AIR GRABBER hood (not the lift off hood) for a 6 pack RR. It looks like the rise in the power hood hood would clear the top of the air cleaner but I don't know now after seeing this picture. I hope this is a picture of a guys car running 2 air filters or something. Again, I'm going to be just sick if the hood won't clear. Sick, sick sick!!!! Will keep you posted because tomorrow it goes on.

A stock six pack fits under the R/T hood with about 1.5 inches to spare on a 440 which is taller than a 340.

The guy that cut a hole in his hood is either running two filters (which I think I remember seeing him doing) OR he is using a taller intake than stock like the weiand six pack tunnel ram.

It is also a plastic hood if i remember right so don't think he cut up a good R/T hood.

Christer - buy the hood! For $1000 you can save yourself an awful lot of hassles and waiting time too. I assume by the photo, that this is how mine will arrive eventually. Can't wait!
If I had the guts Dave, I would cut a hole in my flat hood so I can use the car for the next four months, but I have someone lined up to buy it. I think he plans to convert it to a shaker hood, although I'm not sure, but I looked at this too and it's not a cheap conversion. You need someone who really knows what they're doing with sheet metal, as there's a fair amount of re-shaping involved after the hole has been cut. Then of course there's the almost US$1700 shaker intake set-up afterwards....

One question I have neglected to ask all you experts, is that of the DODGE letters that appear on some of the rallye hoods, but not all that I have seen. Is there some magic formula to this? On my 71 model, there is a Dodge badge or emblem that is fixed to the grill, so I assume that the 71 model would not have had the letters on the hood also - am I correct or not? I also see that many of these hoods have the hood safety pins and lanyards. So what's the deal here - seems like a bit of a dog's breakfast to me, but I'm sure there are some rules of thumb to follow Dave???

Correct! No DODGE letters on a ´71 Challenger hood.

Safety pins were an option in ´70. I assume that the same goes for ´71. The choise is yours in other words.

Off the top of my head I seem to remember the hood pins were standard R/T options in 1970 and then completely optional from 1971 - on. I would have to look into that to be sure though.

For what it is worth.... Looking at the original order sheet for my special order 70 340 4 speed car it says power hood (rallye hood) was a $24.30 option. The ties down pins was an option at $15.40. My hood has Dodge letters across the front of it. Remember, this car is not an R/T so this information may not help much.

Nope I remembered wrong (what a suprise).

The hood pins were optional on the 1970 R/T as well and NOT standard on the R/T as I thought. Not only that but looking at the dealer brochure it seems you could order them on the Challenger with the flat hood too.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm happy to hear that I don't have the added expense and labour to organise the DODGE letters to my hood when it comes. I always liked the look of the hood pins, so will probably get a set. I remember reading somewhere that the design team were pissed-off when the DODGE letters were added to the hood by the marketing gurus, or to be more accurate - they were not happy with the placement as they felt they were too far away from the leading edge of the hood as they appeared to be out of balance and looked like an after-thought (which they were).

Heard back from Goodmark in Georgia and so far all plans are happening as hoped. I'm just waiting to hear about the delivery address in Houston so I can get the ball rolling. Copy of the quote from Goodmark FYI:

Put the power hood on my Challenger yesterday and it clears the six pack setup. However, I will toss out a couple points. I bolted the FLAT (more or less) air cleaner base off my 69 RR six pack lift of hood car on the 340+6. When I added the air filter and lid, it barely touched one of the support braces on the under side of the hood. Would the hood close? Yes. Could you drive it? Yes. However, it was close enough it damaged the 340 six pack decal. I removed it (flat base) and used a six pack base that fits up to a 69 RR or GTX AIR GRABBER hood. The base effectively lowers the air filter and lid. After making the switch, I had plenty of clearance. The power hood has been off the car for a year!!! I finished it in Bright Blue with 5 base coats of color and 5 coats of clear. Does it look great? You bet!!! What a piece of design work that hood is!!!

Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd chime in on odering parts from Goodmark. I looked at their webpage under authorized distributors and found one within 30 min. of my home when I ordered my hood and quarter panels. Cost me $480 for the hood and $150? for the quarter and I didn't have to pay any shipping costs.

Welcome aboard Clint. Thanks for adding to the thread and offering your experience with Goodmark.

After reading your comment, I thought I would re-visit the Goodmark website ( http://www.goodmarkindustries.com/homeinfo.htm ) and look at their list of authorised distributors to see if I can reduce my costs by locating one in Houston, which is where I have get the hood sent to for packing in the container. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place, but after trying almost every link off their home page, I'm baffled as to where you found a list of their distibutors. Can you please copy and paste the URL on here for me or perhaps let me know if there is a distributor in Houston according to what you can see?

I have a few days up my sleeve before I need to get things happening, so if I can save a few bucks in shipping from Georgia to Texas that would be great.

No fear Todd - "been there, done that" and came to the realisation that I didn't want to be like the other "sheep" who all live and breathe cars that all look like clones of one another. The dark side is quite an apt description really!

I tried the link off Goodmark's site which went no where, but managed to get to the site for this mob in Houston eventually and guess what - no bloody email contact address again! Not sure what gives with all these people, but it seems like no one wants to receive any orders or correspondence by email. Anyhow - again I took a guess and sent them an email addressed to "info@...." to see if they respond. There was also a contact in Australia, which guess what - went no where either and the phone number was wrong too - so much for up to date info!

The information published on the Goodmark site is really old (copyright 1998) so I imagine that many of their contact details are out of date, thus the numerous dead links there. I'll see what pans out with my email and take it from there.

Hey Roger, I had the same problem when I installed a high-rise dual-plane on my old Corvette. I was looking at changing the hood over to a big block/LT-1 hood, until I found out that there are manufacturers of "drop base" air cleaners. I ended up getting one from K&N (yes, the same folks that make the air filters). Before spending a WAD on a new hood, you might try exhausting all of your possibilities regarding the air cleaner?
