My 73 has a vinyl roof, can i get rid of it completly and have a painted roof, if so what is involved?

remove all trim w/special tool.
remove vinyl top
remove body plugs/clips near back
strip roof to metal (get a good look at your damage) (do not skip this step)
weld in holes where plugs/clips were
make sure you get a good look at you drip rails (repairs as needed)
degrease, metal prep, epoxy prime,
high-build prime, guide coat, block, (x???)
sealer
base & clear coat

The only thing I would add is you can do this with the glass in but you will do a better job with the glass out. If the areas around where the glass seals are rusty (and they usually are) then the glass will have to come out anyway for repair.
