Yes it fits on the INSIDE. It is difficult to get it into the tank if the tank is bolted up because the angle is so sharp. Get someone to help you. You need to drop the tank so you can hold it at a better angle while someone else pushes the filler neck into the tank from the trunk. Then bolt the tank back up and pull the filler neck up to the inside of the rear quarter.
You can do it on your own but it is so much easier with two people.
