Transmission Question

Postby roadrunner » 26 Jun 2004 11:45

My 70 is a factory 340 4 speed car. The question is: Where the transmisson linkage fits through the transmission shift levers on the outside of the case it's a little loose. Was there any bushings that were installed from the factory that would tighten up the linkage where it fits through the holes? Right now I have just pushed the linkage through the holes and put a flat washer on one side and pinned it. But it feels loose.
Any thoughts........?

I am not a 4-speed man but I am sure there were nylon bushings or something. A quick look at the Year One catalog showed that there are bushing kits for early '60s 4-speeds but not for later models.

Anyone able to shed any light on this?

I've owned my 1970 Challenger (4 speed) since 1976 and there weren't any bushings then. It is a loose fit when attaching the linkage but it's never been a problem.
