Can you tell me everything you know about her?

Well it is black. That is about it without more information.

We need the fender tag details to tell you anything about it. The tag is a metal plate with code numbers stamped on it. If it has not been lost it should be on the drivers side inner fender.

Looking at the engine only tells us it has had the carb and intake replaced. That in itself will probably improve horspower over stock . Maybe up to 200-210hp total. My web site (dodgechallenger.co.uk) tells you all the specifications of the cars.

D34 = 904 Torqueflite Transmission
C16 = Centre Console
C55 = Bucket seats
Standard steering wheel
Standard Instrument panel

As Dave said check out your fender tag if you have one.
If you can't figure it out post the numbers up here and we'll decode them for you.

Looks like a tidy car, engine compartment needs a spring clean and the interior some touch ups but overall a tidey E-Body.

Proves you can tell as much about the colour of the car by looking at a photograph of it as you can the options it had when it was built or have been fitted since.

I've seen other Challlengers the same colour as mine, I wonder why dodge listed it as black instead of dark purple or something...

Really need to find that tag, if not the opnly other way we might be able to help is if you take close and detailed photos of the areas you wish to find out about. :shock:

There is a photo of the engine....I want to know what after market products are on it.

There's an Edelbrock #1002 triangular air filter (I think) And another little airfilter to the left....Anything else?

Also, I am buying two Ecotek units for the car, for fuel saving etc.

Anyway it does not look VERY modified. It just looks like a stock motor with a carb and intake swap. But I thought I had said this already?

Any real power is made in the heads/with the cam and a photo of them will be of no use either.

So has it got a fender tag or not? I am getting bored. All you have to do is lift the hood and look on the top of the drivers side inner fender. Is it there or not?

If not we have no idea what model you have or the options it came with.
If yes then print it out here the same way as the examples in the VIN/Option codes section of this board and we will de-code it for you.

Any non-standard parts fitted you should be able to identify yourself and look up on the internet.

All that tells me is that it is a 1972 Challenger built at Hamtramck fairly late on in the model year and it was never a Challenger Rallye (so the scoops on the front fenders are not correct) and it came originally with the 318 engine.

You can add as many carbs as you want son. Fill the trunk with them and it will go 200mph. :roll:

I said (three times now) it has had a carb and intake swap. That means it has a new (bigger) 4 barrel carb and intake manifold added. As I said above that will have raised the power output to about 200hp. As long as everything else about the engine is sound and it is not too worn.

Unlike alot of you, I never studied how to repair a car or add to a car.

Why wait until now to tell us that? We all started out not knowing. It is up to you to teach yourself. We can only help. But you have to learn to ask the right questions first.
None of us here work on cars for a living as far as I know. We all do this for a hobby. try reading through all the technical posts. Not easy when it is not your own language I know.

It is not considered very wise to buy a 32 year old car and expect to use it unless you know a little about how to look after one.

After squinting at the poor photograph I can see it is a holley 4bbl carb (type and size is imopssible to tell) sitting on an Edelbrock single plane intake manifold.

That looks like the only mods to me. The little filter on the passenger side valve cover is a breather for the PCV system. Needed because of the silly air filter fitted.

Yupe, you have to be ready to learn, these cars need there attention race, strip or show you need to know abopve the basics to keep 'em happy, OR have heaps of money to hand to some young poncho! LOL!! :lol:

I'm not the best with cars but I learn something new everyday and enjoy the heck out-of-it! Love reading the tech posts to, confusing as heck!!!! :shock:

The challenger had 170,000 miles on the clock and wasn't running well at all, I sold it for $8000 and bought a 73 Plymouth Duster with a brand new 340, 3500 miles on the clock, she's a dream, I'll post a pic or two.

Don't worry, the Challenger has foind an owner with enough time, money and experience to fix it up.

At least the Duster runs well and I won't have to change anything for a good number of years.

EDIT: I prefer the Challengers dash though. :wink:
