Turn signals --- Still not working

Postby Underdog » 31 Dec 2003 21:25

I'm going to go crazy from this. All lights work (including Hazards) exept the turn signals.
Minor problem #1 is I can't find where the flasher goes I tryed all three spots I was told and pluged it into every spot it would fit :? . But I think even without a flasher or with a bad one the lights should still go on when you click the turn signal just not blink...
Major problem #2 is I have tried everything I can think of and I just replaced the turn signal swith today and still nothing.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Which year challenger. more than likely a grounding problem especially on a 70. I've also had the front turn assembly plugs get a little flaky and simply by by moving the wires they will temperarely work. Make sure the flasher housing is touching chassis ground if it is ametal type. Electrical problems can drive a man insane!

ok-- now lets start here. make sure ing.switch is on!!!!!!!!

check to see if there is 12 volts at the black wire of the flasher plug with the ing. switch on. if no- then check the fuse #8- botton left side of the block. if yes- then check for 12 volts at the red wire on the colum plug that goes to the turn signal switch- but before you check this- take a piece of wire and insert it in place of the flasher unit.

check for power on both sides of the plug- could be a bad joint or wire there.

if there is power there- then put the turn sig.sw to the right side- check now for power at the tan wire ( for the front) and the brown wire(rear).

if power- then you have a problem with the body wiring!!!

I have entire 1970 service manual as JPEGs on CD. If it's any use I could post parts about electrical wiring. I had to do some changes to turn signals, sidemarkers and park lamps on my 1974 due local government non-sense - yellow parks are forbidden, red sidemarkers are forbidden and so on. It's not exact match for 74 but very close.

Moparts.com used to have extensive collection of electrical wiring diagrams as well as a lot of other useful stuff but for some reason they have deleted nearly all of them. Among other stuff they had huge list of transmission markings -> body style + year mappings that are gone as well. That's where I learned that my transmission is correct year and meant for e-body, but not from same car.
