distributor cap difference

Postby turbocal » 23 Dec 2003 0:47

I have a challenger with a 440. The number on the side of the block is, 36948830440 9. It appears the car has been converted to elecrtonic ignition. The problem is, the replacement cap and rotor that I was about to purchase are different. My cap has the prongs sticking out of the top, the replacement didn't, my rotor is round and screws in, the replacement slides on. What do I have here, and how do I get replacement parts. My wires are MSD as well as the rotor. Finally, can anyone tell me anything about this engine from the number above. I have enclosed a picture if it helps. Thanks, Calvin

The problem is that you have not got a Chrysler-fitted/supplied distributor. I think what you have there is an MSD or Mallory billet distributor or something like that.

Have a look on the Summit Racing web site and see if you recognise anything there. Also look for some part number on the one you have.
