Pinging!

Still fustrated that my 383/4bbl, basically stock motor, Street Avenger 670cfm carb, stock heads, manifold and exhaust with a 280/474 Purple cam, pings when the car is "under-load". Tried retiming several times, eliminated the vacuum advance, have an electronic distributor setup with the orange box. Runs good on 110+ Cam2 fuel but pings on 94 octane. Any suggestions. I want to stay with a Mopar distributor and the stock look if possible. Recurving the distributor seems to be a longshot. Fustrating.

You want no more than 34-35 degrees total (initial and mechanical) advance all in by 2500-3000. Restrict your vacuum advance to no more than 10 degrees.

If you have have your timing in that area and it is still pinging check that the timing mark on the crank is indeed at TDC.

Check out the thread "440 pinging"
(It is in the same section as this post).
It may give you some hints.
