Stearing column

Ok - Help!!!
I am about done trying to figure this one out. How do you get the stearing column OFF??? The stearing wheel is removed and I am stairing down that giant rippled coffie can. I assumed that I was just sposta use that U thing to release presure and pop a clip but the U thing dosen't fit.

You want to remove the "can" above the turn signal switch?

I have described this a few times before so you might want to do a search and see what else comes up but basically you need to make a puller from a bit of thick steel plate that will fit inside the "coffee can". Drill two lage holes in it big enough for two bolts to drop right through that you can screw into the two threaded holes either side of the center. When you tighten them it will pull the "can" up and off the splined shaft.

Of course there is a correct tool to do this but making one is real easy.
