Alternator

Someone Southern Engineered my engine wiring harness with regards to the voltage regulator and alternator. In the interest of keeping a clean engine bay and doing away with the splicing that took place I have purchased a one wire alternator w/ built in voltage regulator for use on my car. Now I need to know how much of the harness I can remove and still have the electrical system function properly. My replacement alternator is GM style and has one 10ga wire that runs directly to the positive side of the battery for re-charging. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well. The thing is I know how to wire up a 70-74 mopar (The diagrams are on this board) but not any other makes of American car.

What I don't understand is why you would want to use a non-mopar part in the first place when it is not going to fit the standard brackets or wiring. Are you not creating more problems that way? Is this alternator for maintanance free batteries or normal lead-acid? They charge at different voltages.

I would guess that you would need a field wire from the #1 splice on the diagram and run the battery wire as standard.

If I was you I would aim to get the car nearer some sort of stock system (no matter what make you drive) so that fault finding at some point in the future is possible with the help of an electrical diagram.

Time to replace the F*rd something or other Alternator that came with my car. I want to fit a Mopar 75 amp replacement, does it need to be a 2- wire or single- wire model? Any ideas?

It should be two field wires on all Challengers.

Shop around for as big an output as you need. You might even have to use a GM unit. Ergh!
