What Caster Angle?

Postby dave-r » 13 May 2001 8:50

I am getting my front wheels aligned tomorrow or the day after.
When I had power steering I had it lined up with as much positive caster as I could get.
Now that I have manual steering that is too heavy.

How much caster angle is needed to make the car handle OK before it feels too heavy?

I see the workshop manual suggests 0.5 deg. NEGATIVE caster with manual steering! I don't want that. Would 0.25 or 0.5 degree positive be enough to work without me having to work out in the gym to get my arms bigger?

that should be fine, neg. caster makes your car feel unstable at hi speed with pwr. steering.
i really dont see why mopar rec. neg caster, maybe it was the hi tech bias ply tires. anyway.
depends on you tire size,as to how hard it is to turn.
just remember to start moving as you turn.
good luck

In the end I had it set to 1 degree positive. With the 245x15 tires on the front it is heavy work but I get by Ok.
