Can anybody explain the codes discribed in the workshop manual; the ones written above each wire in the wiring diagrams. I do know the color codes, they're explained in the legend in the manual, but what about the other codes...

For example the wire to one side of the ballast resistor: J2A-16DBL* The DBL* means dark blue with a tracer but what does the other codes mean? Also in the wiring diagram the wire goes from the ballast resistor to a "1 in a rectangle symbol" What's that? (this is an example from the 72 wiring/all engines)

Just want to know cause I'm gonna rewire a couple of wires.

Last question first. That diamond or box shape with the 1 in it will be what they call the number one splice. Most of the 12volt wires run from there as you can see in the diagram.

I can't remember off the top of my head what most of the code on each wire is for but the number before the colour is the gauge (thickness) of the wire.

About that splice thing; this would mean that all the wires which goes to the #1 splice could also all be put in the #19 of the bulkhead instead of installing a splice between the wires? The gauge of a wire also says something about the amps the wire can handle and the resistance it has, isn't it.

When you remember what these codes on the wires are, let me know please. I want to do right the first time... Right now it's a little mess with all the wiring. I try to reroute most of the wiring with the result of a nice cleaner looking engine compartment.

Remember that it is a circuit diagram you are looking at and not a wiring diagram. The difference is that a wiring diagram shows how the wires are layed out and connected in practice. A circuit diagram only shows how the wires are connected electrically.

I am looking for the color coded wiring diagram for the original V8 motor of a 74 Dodge Challenger. Can anyone give me any information on this?
