This is what I did to my tips. I found that the 3" system into two warlock mufflers was not bringing the noise level down enough so I had these mufflers custom made. They do standard widths and just cut them to length.
However I got my measurements wrong so they were a bit too long. The easiest way out of this was to weld the tips directly onto the end.
Just to give you an idea of scale here is one stood next to a big Kirby vacuum cleaner.
Looking in the end you can see the deflector plate. It is just an angled bit of steel plate.
This last one shows how I shaped the 3 inch outlet from the exhaust to fit onto the back of the tip after cutting off the standard size inlet pipe and opening the hole up.
