Ok... here's a question for anyone that can answer. I have had my 72 for about 3 weeks... As I was going over it in the last week... I noticed that the neutral switch was loose. Just out of curiosity I pulled the neutral switch off the transmission and turned the key... THE CAR STARTED... in fact it would start in ANY gear. It was my understanding that the neutral switch was needed to start the car. Could someone please correct me if I am wrong, or more importantly tell me how the last owner could have bypassed the neutral switch. Also, If anyone has the other pages of the wiring not in the link at the top, could there be a way that I could get a copy please. Thanks
Robert

The 72 is not suppose to start in any other gear except N or P. How somone could, or I should say, WHY would anybody bypass the neutral switch?

I doubt that the circuit diagrams for 72 are much different to the ones I posted.

I can't remember off hand if the neutral switch is the normally open or normally closed type. A normally closed switch would allow you to start the car in gear if it was unscrewed. I am changing the switch on mine in a couple of weeks and I will check it out then.

I had a problem with my plug getting unplugged in a 727 big block trans, year unknown. Killed the startup circuit. I was on the drive back after buying it, 300 mile trip. Had to adjust the female type contacts in the plug, then the pins (3 of them) made contact enough to keep the plug in place.

In the 1972 Dodge service manual, the center terminal of the 3 terminal switch provides the ground for the starter solenoid circuit through the selector lever in only Park and Neutral. To test switch, remove wiring connector and test for continuity between center pin of switch and transmission case. Continuity should exist only when transmission is in Park or Neutral. Make sure gearshift linkage is adjusted right. Just FYI the two outside pins are for the back-up light switch circuit. Hope this helps
