Upper Control Arms

Postby James Le Viness (Opey) » 14 May 2002 21:45

I need to replace my left upper control arm on my 71 Challenger. I believe that all E-body's are probably the same, but would a B-body control arm fit as well. I had an accident back in my college days which bent the arm throwing off the entire alignment, and now I'm restoring the car, but do not know how hard it's going to be to get one.

I've looked at all the resto supply shops (Year One, Jim's Auto Parts), but they don't sell them.

James, in search of a Lower Control Arm I two weeks ago I found in my Koller 1997 catalogue a parts number for the RIGHT UCA: 2-08-5C. (The left one was not listed). Entering this # in their parts-search-form you get:
"Special Order - Would you like us to send you a price quote?"

I suppose they buy NOS parts when they come across it, be it in small amounts. (and therefore cannot list it as regular stock).
Make a phonecall, maybe they have only one or a few pieces, or ask them to let you know if they come across a UCA in the future. (And call all suppiers).
I could not find a NOS LCA. A couple mopar enthousiasts supposed the B-body LCA's were the same, but with Koller the part # for a B-body UCA is different (2-08-5A). LCA's weren't listed. Then I found this used LCA here in the Netherlands, so I stopped my research. I bought it and after sandblasting and coating it was a fine replacement. Good luck, and keep us informed what you find out about compatibility.

I am pretty sure the control arms on E and B bodies are the same. In either case you are looking for a used one.

Have you ever thought about investing in "Parts interchange manual" (by Mr Herd), Dave?
(Do you have anything against that book?)

Anyway, according to the book the upper arm was the same on 1966-72 Belvedere, Charger, Coronet and Satellite; 1970-74 Barracuda, Challenger, all makes, models and options. Hope this helps!

has anyone used the tubular upper arms, supposed to give you more caster adjustment.mopars usaully have limited caster adj.in order to keep the camber in spec.s. ive done alot of alignments on mopars usaully one side will not come into spec.s.
im thinking of making adjustable strut rods, just a thought.
thanks

I ask Dave a while back about MagnumForce tublar upper control arms. He told me they were un-needed. My concern was just for lowering my car though. yours concern may be different.

You only need about 1 degree neg camber and 2-3 degrees positive caster at most unless this is a serious circuit competition car. The tubular arms will give you more if you want it but the stock set-up should give you what you need.

How much caster are you trying to dial in?
