A contest in trouble shooting, if you switch the words. I guess the company staff purposly prepped all of the cars with the same faults. The team or the person that first found and corrected the faults was the winner. That is how it works, right?

I don't remember a lot about the show. I just remember seeing it a couple of times. 1969 was a busy time for me. I graduated high school and joined the Air Force.

Joined the Air Force? That must have been a thrill. I immediately come to think of the 30 year old movie Top Gun. It is remarkable how many people that still remembers that movie. I have seen it 5+ times myself. I like the flight scenes, the Kawasaki and the romance between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. But there is a difference between fiction and real life, isnĀ“t it?

The movies have a lot of heros, and those that fought in Viet Nam were all heros. There was not much action for me, I refueled fighter jets and had great places to serve. With so many getting one way tickets to Nam, I was very lucky to get to spend 2 1/2 years in England.

Adrian, I was not too far from you at RAF Lakenheath. Near New Market. I enjoyed my time there and met a lot of great people. I was there from Jan 71 - Aug.73.

One of the guys I grew up and hung around with was in it in the mid seventies. Looks like it turned into the Ford AAA troubleshooting contest, though I'm not positive it's the same contest.
http://www.hehs.d211.org/academics/appl ... shoot.html ;
Students at Hoffman Estates High School have been competing in this contest since 1975 when it was called the Plymouth Trouble-Shooting Contest. The contest has 3 parts. The preliminary round is a written test given in each state around the beginning of March. Eight to Sixteen Automotive Tech students are selected to represent Hoffman. To advance to the state finals two students must have a written score high enough to put them in the top ten in the state. The state finals consist of a 90 minute hands-on contest where brand new cars have over a dozen "bugs" put in them and student must repair them in the quickest amount of time. The winner of the state contest travels, (all expenses paid) to Dearborn, Michigan. to represent Illinois in the national contest where it consists again of a written test and a hands-on competition. Contest winners receive
scholarships to various colleges.
