Server Access Problems
Use the information in this section to solve the following problems:
Users cannot connect to any server on the chat network
- Check for network problems.
Users cannot connect to a particular server from
any client
- Check for a network problem on the server.
- Verify that Chat Service is not paused or stopped on the server.
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the
Maximum server connections value. If this number is not large enough,
Chat Service will deny connections from all clients. You can modify this setting
without stopping and restarting Chat Service.
Note The maximum number of server connections represents the
total number of anonymous and authenticated connections on the server.
IRC or IRCX clients cannot connect to a server
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the
Server protocol setting. If the server protocol is set to
MIC only, Chat Service will deny all connections from IRC and
IRCX clients.
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the
Maximum server connections value. If this number is not large
enough, Chat Service will deny connections from all clients. You can modify this
setting without stopping and restarting Chat Service.
- Check User Classes to determine whether a user class is preventing IRC or IRCX clients from connecting to the server. Specifically, check the Client protocol setting in the class's General property sheet.
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the Maximum anonymous connections value. If this number is not large enough, Chat Service will deny all connections from anonymous clients. You can modify this setting without stopping and restarting Chat Service.
Anonymous users cannot connect to a server
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the Maximum anonymous connections value. If this number is not large enough, Chat Service will deny all connections from anonymous clients. You can modify this setting without stopping and restarting Chat Service.
- Check User Classes to determine whether a user class is preventing
anonymous clients from connecting to the server. Specifically, check the
Client logon mode setting in the General
property sheet of the class.
Authenticated users cannot connect to a server
- Go to the service's General property sheet and check the Maximum server connections value. If this number is not large enough, Chat Service will deny connections from all clients. You can modify this setting without stopping and restarting Chat Service.
- Check User Classes to determine whether a user class is
preventing authenticated users from connecting to the server. Specifically,
check the Client logon mode setting in the General
property sheet of the class.
- Verify that the authentication package you are using is configured and working properly. See the documentation on your authentication package for information.
Clients from a specific domain cannot connect to a server
- Check Banned Users to determine whether a ban is in effect for users from this domain.
- Check User Classes to determine whether a user class is banning users from this domain. Check the property sheets of any class for specific restrictions.
