Monitoring Security

Monitoring security involves knowing whether Chat Service is secure from attack or security breaches. Under normal circumstances, there should be few authentication failures. A high number may indicate a password attack on the server.

To monitor Chat Service authentication failures

1. From the Start menu, choose Programs, choose Administrative Tools (Common), and then choose Performance Monitor.
2. From the View menu, choose Chart.
3. From the Edit menu, choose Add To Chart.
4. Select the computer you want to monitor.
5. From the Object drop-down menu, choose Chat Service.
6. From the Counter drop-down menu, choose Total Authentication Failures, and then choose Done.
   
   If you observe a high number of authentication failures, verify that your security software is operating correctly.
