Setting Up a Cloneable Channel

Complete the following steps to set up a cloneable channel.

To set up a cloneable channel

  1. From the Chat Service Manager utility, select a chat server under Microsoft Exchange Chat Service in the left pane.
  2. Create the persistent channel, or select Channels (Rooms) in the left pane, and then select a channel in the right pane.
  3. From the Action menu, choose Properties.
  4. In the Settings property sheet, set Member limit to a relatively low number, such as 10 or 20. This keeps the channel clones more manageable.

Note A cloneable channel's member limit does not affect channel owners or hosts. They can join the base channel or any of its clones even if the member limit has been reached.
  5. In the Modes property sheet, select the Cloneable check box, and then choose OK.

Important If a chat user creates a dynamic channel with the same base name as a cloneable channel, and ends the name with a number (for example, #TestChan2), the channel clone that is eventually created will close the dynamic channel and use its name.
