Using Chat Service Clear-Text or NTLM Authentication

Complete the following steps to authenticate users with Chat Service clear-text or NTLM authentication.

To use Chat Service clear-text or NTLM authentication

Chat Service clear-text and NTLM authentication are active by default. To authenticate users with one of these methods, use the User Manager utility to set up Windows NT user accounts for chat users.

Tip If you want the chat server to accept connections only from authenticated users, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Chat Service Manager utility, select a chat server under Microsoft Exchange Chat Service in the left pane.
  2. From the Action menu, choose Properties.
  3. From the General property sheet, set the Maximum anonymous connections option to 0, and then choose OK.
