To Set Up the Secure Channel

Next, set up a secure persistent channel on the server.

  1. Select Channels (Rooms) in the left pane.
  2. From the Action menu, choose New, and then choose Create channel.
  3. Type the name of the channel in the Name box, and then choose OK. Be sure to precede the channel name with a valid channel prefix (#, &, %#, or %&).
  4. From the Access property sheet, use the Member account box to select the account you created previously. This associates the account with the channel.

The Authenticated clients only check box is automatically selected. This is a safeguard that forces the authentication of each account member.
  5. Optionally, from the Settings property sheet, type the Platform for Internet Content Selection (PICS) string in the Content rating (PICS) box.

Note You use the PICS rating to rate the channel's content. The PICS rating string is generated and provided by ratings organizations such as the Recreational Software Advisory Council (RSAC). Visit the Web site of one of these organizations to acquire a PICS string, and then type (or paste) it into the Content rating (PICS) box.
  6. From the Modes property sheet, select Only authenticated members in the Speaking restrictions group box, and then choose OK. This is an additional safeguard that prevents users who are not members of the member account from sending messages to the channel.
