        This & that

4NW messages offer practical hints, tips, fresh approaches
and solutions for problems, that many 4DOS users encounter
in everyday's computing. Put the 4NW_xxx.MES files in
a separate directory. They may be of valuable help, when 4HELP
        and 4DOS manuals cannot deliver.

Structure and form of 4NW_xxx.MES files

The messages files will be posted once a month. Both the
file and archive take the form 4NW_month/year. Thus 4NW_048
indicates April 1998. The next issue, containing May
        messages, will be 4NW_058 etc.

The voluminous (and mostly irrelevant) mail headers in the
original messages take easily up about a third of each message.
They have been filtered out, except lines beginning with:

        FROM:
        REPLY-TO:
        SUBJECT:

This decreases the size of the message file considerably and
increases its readability quite a bit. However, mail addresses
of the sender and receiver stay intact in case that a reader
wishes to comment a message or get mailwise in contact with
        the message writer.

To improve further the readability of the message files encoded
files (COM EXE ZIP) in 4NW_xxx files will be removed and decoded.
They can be found as binary files in an embedded DECODxxx.ZIP
archive. Chain letters, commercial, religious and sex crap will be
entirely eliminated - spamming to user groups has become a new plague.
Extreme long .BTMs and other listings, though not encoded, will be
        moved to DECODxxx.ZIP, too.

File INDEX98.SUB composed of ·Subject:· lines in message files
may come handy for quick keyword searches within respective .MES
files. It comprises an accumulating subject list for each month
indicating, in which 4UW_xxx archive you may expect to find a
certain item. INDEX97.SUB covers last year's subjects.
