Description: View is a text editor and organizer for hp 48.
View is a text editor software designed for the hp 48
calculators, G, GX, S, SX. It is written in user RPL. The
purpose of this software is to provide an easy and fast way to
edit and display data. View program has unique properties. The
user can edit a single line at a time by pressing the number of
the line (from a menu). The user don't have to go through the
whole page in order to reach for a certain line. In addition,
View provides a powerful way to rearrange not only pages within a
file, but also lines within a page. The way to do this is to
press the number of the line from the keyboard (see details
below). Another nice feature View program has is its ability to
autowrap text. I personally use this program to make a to-do list,
in which I like to rearrange lines containing things to do,
depending on priority. Besides, I use it to store telephone
numbers and other information. Even though View is written in
user code, it is relatively fast. The reason lies in the way
this program is written. I avoided writing long "case"
statements. Instead, I used many small subroutines, which would
be evaluated very fast, depending on the key pressed. The data
is stored as strings which themselves are contained in lists.
Each list must contain exactly seven strings. Each string
corresponds to one line, and each list corresponds to one page.
A file is a list of these lists.
format:
todo = {{"xyz" "xx" "" "" "x" "xxx" ""}...}
This program is distributed as a library. Press NEW to
create a new file. You can supply the name of the file as an
argument to NEW, or you can supply no arguments at all, in which
case a new file will be created with a new name created by the
program. To edit the current file, press VIEW. The name of the
current file must be stored in a variable with the name ->NAME.
If you like to write text in small letters most of the time,
press |store alpha|. This makes the default small-letters mode.
Use <-shift to write in capital letters. This program may seem
complicated at the first sight, but you will find it very
convenient and useful when you get used to it. I hope it will be
advantageous to you.
Keys:
|VAR| exit the program.
|+| insert a new empty page after the current one.
|-| insert a new empty page before the current one.
|ENTER| rename the file
|/\| go to previous page
|\/| go to next page
|CST| copy page to stack
|EVAL| insert page in the file before the current page from
stack.
|DEL| delete page
|EEX| sort file. (Works only on hp 48 g or gx)
|+/-| sort page. (Works only on hp 48 g or gx)
(Pressing one of the above two sorting keys on an SX will NOT
crash your calculator)
|NXT| go to first page in the file.
|>| go to last page in the file.
|SIN| display size of file. (how many pages it has)
|1/x| swap the current page and the next page.
|x| roll lines in the current page down.
|division key| roll lines in the current page up.
Note: the menu associated with the soft keys has numbers from 2
to 7.
|soft key with number n| edit line # n, n = 2,3,4,5,6,7.
|PRG| edit line # 1.
<-shift |soft key with number n| copy line # n to stack.
->shift |soft key with number n| insert line from stack into
line# n. Old line will be
saved on the stack.
alpha ->|soft key with number n| same as above except that Old
line is lost (not saved).
alpha |soft key| delete line # n. (It will be saved on the stack)
Keys to rearrange lines within a page:
Press a key which has a number on it from the keyboard and you
will notice that the lines are rearranged depending on which
key you press.
In addition, you can use ->shift, <-shift, or alpha and a key
with number from the keyboard (instead of the soft keys) to get
the same effect as described above.
