The OFFICIAL B-Ware History file!
Written by Liket...
Everything started when Duffe and Doc (now called Fichu) asked me to join
their group B-Ware...
At that time, B-Ware was a little group who did absolutely nothing.
We went to TCC-93 and we did NOTHING. Nothing at all.
However, at TCC-93 i met a guy called Daniel Swärd (now Excalibur), but that
doesn't matter yet...
But after that, things started to change... I composed my first mod
(the former ones were only covers) and figured that maybe one day my mods
could be good enough to suit a demo...
I thought about trying to join some group when...BAM! I remembered that i
already was a member of a group!
In my summer holiday I started coding in basic - ofcourse i knew the basic
language, but not very well, and i knew NOTHING about graphics.
We released a christmas demo in July (VERY lame) and we also released
a demo that we called "Don't puke on the keyboard"! Both productions were
*very* lame... Yeah, before that, we also released a demo called KORVSPAD,
but it was even lamer (it only consisted of a scroll and something else)!
Days passed, and suddenly... the summer was almost over!
I got a call from Daniel Swärd, who told me that he was now a member of
a basic group called Squareware!
What a coincidence! I gave the coder Anders (now ALI) a call, and in less
than two days, Squareware joined B-Ware. The B-Ware of today was formed.
Ali gave me an idea to make a real christmas demo! And we started working...
The demo was very lame considering what we can do today, but it was still
cool to be in QBasic.
By the way, at this time I became a member of the C64 group NOICE, as a
musician, but that doesn't matter =).
I and Duffe went to The Party 93, and we attended the democompo with the demo
called NOTHING COMPARES TO B-WARE.
The demo used a decruncher that required 700k's of diskspace.
After 4 tests (!) we managed to get the demo work with their gus and we still
had 8 hours left to the deadline...
But, what happened? They showed the loader, and suddenly an error message
appeared at the bottom of the screen:
Insufficient disk space
Press any key to return to system
...
They had 50k free!!!!! When we tested it there were 20 megs free, so I
couldn't even DREAM of running out of diskspace...
But that's not the worst part - the worst part was:
THEY REFUSED TO RERUN IT!
They said: It had a chance, and it didn't work...
If I'd have thought a little more about it, then I'd have threatened to pound
him if he didn't rerun it, but I didn't.
We went home at the end of the party - very disappointed of course...
But we didn't give up! We started working with the demo again, we removed
the X-mas touch, removed lame effects, added better effects, and planned
to release it at TCC-94. But NOW what? THE FUCKING PARTY WAS CANCELLED!!!
Now, it's July-94, and we're still working with the fucking demo!
But - the demo looks just a little bit different now...
Not ONE effect from the old (tp3-version) demo is left! Now, we even make
Zodiak / Cascada impressed! And now, we're planning to release it at ASM-94.
Of course - we won't have any chance to win any prize, but i'm VERY sure
that we will at least hit the Top-10!!!
Well, since we are now at present-time, I can't write any more history!
But i can tell you what we plan for the future:
A well-designed Trackdemo, a very-well-designed Intro, and a discmag.
Everything written in PURE basic...
BUT - when we feel we can't push QBASIC any further (coz even know we do
many things that AREN'T POSSIBLE to do), then we'll switch to pascal -
heading for Assembler... But noone knows!
Those who live will witness what happens!
Greetings to groups we know:
Oneway (System 6581 RULEZ!)
sYmptom (NÄ NU BLIR JAG ARG!)
Capacala (Thanx for CapaMod, flap!)
TUC (Nice chatting in DGI)
Diffusion (Craftsman _was_ better - STOP BUGGING ME!!!) Hehehehe...
Blank/255
etc etc... naaah, i'm to tired to write greetings...
Look at them in the end of the demo instead!
