Summary: Instructions for boot block recovery procedure used to
restore BIOS code on GW2K Anigma BAT4IP3 motherboard.
======================================================================

The boot block recovery procedure is used to restore BIOS code to the
flash ROM chip when the BIOS code has been corrupted or erased,
normally resulting in blank screen on powerup. This procedure may also
be necessary if the wrong BIOS code has been flashed into the chip.

This procedure requires a valid recovery disk, normally created during
installation of a BIOS upgrade or provided by the system vendor. We
have a recovery disk for the Anigma BAT4IP3 motherboard available on
our FTP site and BBS. The file BAT3RD.EXE is a self-extracting archive
containing a self-extracting diskette image which is used to create a
recovery disk. Please read the instructions included.

WARNING: Please insure that you have the Anigma BAT4IP3 motherboard
before using this recovery disk. This motherboard can be physically
identified by checking for components of the Intel Aries chipset
(82425EX and 82426EX chips) and for 5 ISA and 3 PCI expansion slots.
The model number BAT4IP3 is silkscreened onto the front of the
underside of the board and may also appear on a bar code sticker along
with the serial number. The Gateway 2000 part number for this board is
MBDPCI003AxWW. This motherboard is also called the BAT3 or the Aries
Non-Integrated. GW2K has used several other motherboards made by
Anigma with similar names and numbers, so it is important to check
carefully when identifying the motherboard.

Boot Block Recovery Instructions:
.
1. Turn system off.

2. Move jumper J35 from pins 2-3 to pins 1-2.

3. Insert recovery disk into drive A:

4. Turn system on. The display screen will remain blank.
After about 10 seconds, there will be 1 long and 2 short beeps.
The diskette access light should come on and files will be loaded
from the diskette. After about 90 seconds there will be a series
of high-pitched beeps followed by a series of low-pitched beeps.
Although the diskette drive light is still on, the system can be
powered off after the low-pitched beeps.

5. After powering sytem off, move J35 back to pins 2-3.

6. Power system on. It will probably be necessary to enter CMOS
   setup and adust values.
